Our Kitchen Chemistry Investigation
Our investigation began with observing the children to find out their interests. Once we figured out something they wanted to learn about and asked questions about, we started creating a content web of what we thought the most important concepts of the topic were. The web included the main topic, kitchen chemistry, and then subtopics about concepts the children were interested in. The web then branched out to include the activities that we would be doing with our students and how they would be relevant to the state standards and the developmental domains. We then taught our hook activity to be sure that the students were interested enough in our activity and would be able to ask questions about our topic. This led to choosing four lessons and teaching them to our students and then watching their skills grow as they learned about kitchen chemistry. The web and each of the lessons is described further on its own page under "The Kitchen Chemistry Investigation" tab at the top. I have also included how we watched our students progress and learn from before our first lesson to after we completed our last lesson.
